Saudi Arabia Considers the Option of Hosting Two F1 Races
Saudi Arabia Considers the Option of Hosting Two F1 Races. The chairman of the Saudi Automobile & Motorcycle Federation, Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al Faisal, has expressed openness to the idea of hosting two Formula One races per season in Saudi Arabia in the future. While the country's second F1 circuit in Qiddiya is not expected to be ready until 2027, Prince Khalid sees potential for two races per year with the growth of F1 and demand in the region. He acknowledges that there are many factors to consider before making a decision, including the practicality and feasibility for FOM and the teams, but notes that Saudi Arabia has two beautiful facilities and the biggest population and strongest economy in the region.
Additionally, Prince Khalid discussed the possibility of hosting the opening race of the 2024 season to avoid a date clash with the month of Ramadan, which will run from March 10 to April 8. Either Saudi Arabia or Bahrain could take the slot, but discussions with FOM and the teams are needed before a decision is made.
